Home cooked goodness
On the menu:
Gobo (burdock), konnyaku, renkon (lotus root) and ninjin (carrot) cooked 'Japanese home-cooked style'
Dried squid with chilli mayo
Common Japanese side dishes (similar to osechi - Japanese New Year food) black soy beans, tofu, seaweed mixed with vegetables
Sashimi (mackerel soaked in vinegar and kombu seaweed) eaten with freshly grated ginger and soy sauce
Stewed pumpkin with minced chicken
Grilled unagi (eel) with pickled cucumber and sesame seeds
Assorted mushrooms baked in butter and mirin, teriyaki chicken, rice with roasted nori seaweed
All this was made by Kiyoko. Sugoi! She is an amazing cook. Makoto and I just kept on eating and eating and she just kept cooking and bringing out more and more food. After a short time-out, we had tea and cakes I bought from Reve Chef.
They are such a lovely couple. I'm going to miss their funny stories and warm hospitality.

Hey Christine,
Love reading your sister's and your blog. It's so cool reading about all the cool adventures you had in Japan! I would love to go to Japan and teach for a year or so. For the time being I can do that vicariously through your blog. Keep up the good work! Don't know if you've seen this yet or not, but check this link out:
