English teachers enkai

Tonight I went to a restaurant in Tarumi for the English teachers end of school year dinner.

The place was really nice and we sat in a private room with tatami and funky floor seats just like in a ryokan (Japanese style inn/hotel).

There was so much food and we were all so stuffed. The 10, 000 yen meal (which was paid for by the money we put in the kitty each month) was delicious and of course beautifully presented too.

Sashimi, soup, bento of Spring-inspired nibblies

Creamy mushroom gratin thing baked in an apple, shellfish and salad

Fish and vegetable nabe (hotpot)

Octopus and shiso leaf tempura served with shiso salt

Green tea, bean rice and pickled vegetables

Some kind of dessert with blueberry sauce and fruit

And to top it off, we all got a take home box of fresh sushi. Yummy.

Looks like it was prepared by an Iron Chef!

Japanese people must not be very tall at all- there seems to be very small servings of food there!
